Tyalgum Village Australia Day 2018!

On Friday 26th January, Tyalgum Village joins in the Australia Day celebrations with a wonderful programme. Please put the date in your diary and join with family and friends to make this Australia Day a special day here in our beautiful village.

The day will commence with the traditional Street Parade at 9.30 am. All community organisations, businesses, school groups and individuals are encouraged to participate. Make a float or march, dress up in your best Aussie-themed outfits. Prizes awarded to best decorated floats and children’s bikes. Every child with a decorated bike will receive a paddle pop or a delicious gelato.
Everyone is encouraged to gather at the Tyalgum Hall for the formal part of the day from 10am, which will include an Acknowledgement of Country by the traditional custodians. The Tyalgum Public School captains will make an address and raise the flag as we sing the National Anthem.
Australia Day awards will be presented inside the Hall, to recognise members of our community who have made a significant contribution to Tyalgum Village. Morning tea will be provided followed by a sing-a-long, while children’s activities are held outside.
There is a great buzz of anticipation in the air with the ‘double wicket cricket comp’ to be played on Bruce Bartrim Oval commencing at 11.30 am. The cricket is open to men, women and young people. Teams of two will be drawn from a hat. Each team will bat and bowl 2 overs per player. Eleven fielders. A cricket ball is used. The game can cater for 30+ players. Trophies will be given to the winning team (trophy each) and to the runners-up (trophy each). A modest barbeque and bar will be available throughout the afternoon. Entries on the day at the oval at 11.30 am.

There will also be a Marketta at the back of Flutterbies from 9am-3pm, live music and Flutterbies will also be celebrating it’s 13th birthday on the day as well. There will be a few new surprises down there so be sure to pop in through the course of the day.

Our most popular event of the Flutterbies calendar is here! The Midwinter Shakespeare dinner. On Saturday 4th August. Flutterbies will produce it's fourth major Shakespeare production with the classic comedy: 'As You Like It' performed by Tyalgum's Shepherd's Purse Theatre Company. 'As You Like It' is an adventure of the heart, a journey through a forest of poetry (and Lions), and a tale of a love so grand all the rules are broken to win the heart of a boy. Passionate and disarming, As You Like It is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved romantic comedies. Dress up and get in the spirit! Banquet style dinner. A goblet of mulled wine on arrival & the performance.
Get in quick - as this event fills up very fast! On the day itself it is also our monthly Market Day and in-keeping with the Shakespeare theme, there will be a specially 'Shakespeare themed' Market.
