Our most popular event of the Flutterbies calendar is here! The Midwinter Shakespeare dinner. On Saturday 4th August. Flutterbies will produce it’s fourth major Shakespeare production with the classic comedy: ‘As You Like It’ performed by Tyalgum’s Shepherd’s Purse Theatre Company.

‘As You Like It’ is an adventure of the heart, a journey through a forest of poetry (and Lions), and a tale of a love so grand all the rules are broken to win the heart of a boy. Passionate and disarming, As You Like It is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved romantic comedies. Dress up and get in the spirit! Banquet style dinner. A goblet of mulled wine on arrival & the performance.

Get in quick – as this event fills up very fast! On the day itself it is also our monthly Market Day and in-keeping with the Shakespeare theme, there will be a specially ‘Shakespeare themed’ Market.

Introduction to Silversmithing – JUNE 2

Learn the basics of silversmithing in a relaxed, country setting here in Tyalgum, northern NSW. During the course of the day you will become familiar with the fundamental tools of the trade, learn how to cut, saw, anneal, solder, texture and finish two rings, which will be yours to keep!

This is a comprehensive workshop covering a lot of theory and practical issues when learning the craft of silversmithing.

Workshops run from 10am until 4pm on a Saturday, and are for up to six students, to allow for individualised tuition.
Full payment is required upon booking to secure your place.

$165 tuition fee, includes all use of tools and materials.

While you are there, take a stroll through to the back gardens along Marketta Lane and enjoy this quaint, country setting in the cool of the lush gardens.

Find more locally handcrafted and vintage wares in front of the Tyalgum General Store, and be sure to wander down the main street and enjoy our local artisan galleries, and gift shops!

Musical Whispers 2018 with Ayesha Gough & Xenia Puskarz Thomas – JULY 7

Hearts Aflame is proud to be be bringing classical pianist Ayesha Gough back to the Tweed for a special one-off concert appearance at Tyalgum’s Flutterbies Cottage Cafe. She will perform a selection of the great piano classics including works from Liszt, Prokofiev and more! A graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, First Prize winner of the 2015 Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition, Ayesha has performed with Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Conservatorium Orchestra among many others. Presently she is continuing study in Italy at the Accademia Pianistica Internazionale “Incontri col Maestro”. Winner of a swag of awards including the Variety Club Children’s Charity of which she is an International Ambassador. This July concert will be Ayesha’s 4th appearance at Flutterbies in Tyalgum. Ayesha will be joined by Brisbane based Mezzo Soprano Xenia Puskarz Thomas for a selection of Operatic Arias and popular songs. Named by the Courier Mail as one of ‘Queensland’s 50 Best and Brightest’, Xenia is quickly making a name for herself in Opera. Many of you would recall Xenia’s fabulous concert at Flutterbies last year. Since then, Some of Xenia’s other recent engagements include performing with The Camerata of St John’s in their Helpmann nominated “Home” concert and with them again in the 2017 Tyalgum Music Festival. She was also a representative of Australia in the 3rd International Australian Chinese Film Festival Concert held in Wuhan, China. Saturday 7th July

The Lyrebird Trio in Concert at Flutterbies

A special event is coming to Flutterbies Cafe in Tyalgum: The Lyrebird Trio is comprised of Australian musicians Glenn Christensen (violin), Simon Cobcroft (cello) and Angela Turner (piano), all distinguished graduates of the Queensland Conservatorium. The Trio was formed in 2013 and they regularly perform right across Australia with featured concerts at Melbourne Recital Hall, Sydney Opera House among others, they have had recordings and broadcasts on ABC Classic FM, and MBS networks. Outside of the trio, Glenn Christensen is a member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra; Simon Cobcroft is Principal Cello with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and Angela Turner is a lecturer at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University. For the Flutterbies concert they will be performing the spirited Haydn Gypsy trio, as well as works by Kopetz and Mendelssohn as well as an original work called ‘Of The Sea, The Moon and of You’. The concert is $50 per person and includes a Champagne Gold cocktail on arrival. Book for lunch before the concert. Cocktail and Dessert menu available at interval.
